Adventures in the Park with Marcijona: The red squirrel is a children's picture book that showcases the European red squirrel, an endangered species. This adventurous red squirrel invites children to visit her home city of Vilnius, in the country of Lithuania. Children will enjoy looking at the pictures of the red squirrel’s life in the park. The story starts with an invite from Marcijona to tour her home park in the autumn and ends in the spring. Everyday life experiences, the colors of fall, winter snow, and finally spring are seen in the photos within the book. Photos turned into watercolor renditions, allow children to see the city and life of these animals in the park from autumn to spring. These are original photos of the squirrels and surrounding cityscapes, along with easy facts about this UNESCO World Heritage City. Educationally, primary color identification, Lithuanian/English phrases, and friendship are examined. There is also a Study Guide of Simple Lithuanian Phrases Adventures in the Park with Marcijona, that will be forthcoming as a companion to Adventures in the Park with Marcijona: The Red Squirrel. It will have photos showing how the simple phrases could be used. It is not a travel vocabulary learning tool. It is for entertaining children while giving them some easy language skills of a different culture.
